Is Arches National Park dog-friendly? Not really.
Dogs are allowed wherever cars are —on roads, parking areas, and paved pullouts— as well as in picnic areas and in Devils Garden Campground. But pets are not allowed on any hiking trails in Arches National Park. Pets are also not allowed at any overlooks or in the visitor center, and you aren’t allowed to leave your dog in the car for any period of time.
To fully experiences Arches National Park, I recommend boarding your dog for the day (or even overnight) in Moab, just 10 minutes away.
I highly recommend Karen’s K9 Kampground, which gets 4.5 stars on Yelp. Juno has stayed there twice and loved it.
But even though Arches National Park isn’t very dog-friendly, there are plenty of dog-friendly activities nearby! My personal favorite is Corona Arch, a 3.2 mile dog-friendly hike just 15 minutes outside Arches National Park.
The trail is pretty easy, following a slickrock canyon about 1.5 miles to Corona Arch. The trail crosses an active railroad track at the very beginning, so be sure to listen and look!
The only difficult part is a short, steep section of cable drilled into the rock, which can be difficult for dogs or small children.
We saw several dogs climb the cabled section, but Juno is a cranky, stubborn 9-year-old who hates heights. We stayed at the bottom while my friends continued on to the arch.
