I’ve wanted cute, outdoorsy mountain earrings for awhile now, but wasn’t finding any with enough personality to pull the trigger.
Then last week, while scrolling TikTok, I stumbled on a video of custom Yosemite Valley earrings from artist Taylor Van Sant aka Two Far From Home.
The detail, right?! Seriously incredible! I immediately knew I wanted a pair of my own.
I messaged Taylor on Etsy with a couple options of landscapes I thought I might want: sunrise over the Maroon Bells and sunrise over Mount Whitney. She mocked them both up for me and I chose the scene of alpenglow over Mount Whitney, as seen from the Alabama Hills.
The scene, which you might recognize from Apple’s Sierra OS desktop background, is incredibly special to me.
I summited Mount Whitney three times between September 2018 and September 2019. The first time was with my now-best-friends Ashley and AlizĂ©. The third was with my dad at the finale of our 220 miles on the John Muir Trail. You can’t beat that rosy alpenglow.
The Alabama Hills are also one of my favorite places to car camp. Every time I woke up to that magical alpenglow on a trip to or from my house in San Francisco, it reminded me that everything would be alright.
And look how it translates into clay!
The final product is absolutely gorgeous.
The clay is surprisingly light, and didn’t pull on or bother my ears at all even after a long day of Zoom meetings.
I love my new mountain earrings, a beautiful reminder of one of the most beautiful places on earth.
If you’re on the hunt for a cute pair of mountain earrings, definitely check out Two Far From Home! They have plenty of other cute earrings too, with both mountain and desert landscapes. There’s even a pair with Tattooine. 🙂
And if you’re looking for something a bit more backpacking-friendly, look no farther than these mountain studs, which I wore on the John Muir Trail.
